There were three new fires reported in the Northwest Region in the past two days, all three in the Sioux Lookout District.
Two new fires were small and posed no problems Tuesday. A third fire was reported and responded to in the Sachigo Lake Area yesterday.
With sunny weather in the forecast for the next few days, the fire hazard is expected to remain at “moderate to high” in the west and southern portions of the region heading into the weekend.
In related news, smoke from several large fires in northern Manitoba is expected to be present in the Red Lake, Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Dryden and Thunder Bay Districts over the next few days.
If you are concerned with the health effects of smoke from forest fires please contact your local health unit
People are reminded that during the fire season there is no day burning allowed for brush or grass fires.
Under the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario such fires are to be started no sooner than two hours before sunset and are to be put out no later than two hours after sunrise.
Campfires are allowed during the day but like the other outdoor fires they must be kept small, they are to be attended at all times and put dead out before leaving the site.
