Four new fires were reported in the Northwest Region on Saturday.
Three of them were in Nipigon District—with two having been declared “out” while the other one last was reported as “being held.”
A fire in Red Lake District, located near Sandy Lake First Nation, was last reported as “under control” at 0.2 hectares.
Following infrared scanning, Red Lake Fire #7 and Fire #10, both of which started in late May, have been declared “under control.”
The forest fire hazard is “low to moderate” in the southern sectors of the region and “high to extreme” in the north.
Ontario continues to support Alberta and Yukon firefighting efforts.
Some 125 personnel returned from Alberta yesterday while 74 came back from the Yukon.
People are reminded that they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines set out in the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario, including no day burning of brush or grass fires.
As well, campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
