There was a handful of new forest fires over the weekend, as the fire hazard has become high to extreme across the Northwest Region.
There was one new forest fire confirmed in the region by the late afternoon on Saturday.
Red Lake fire #31 is under control at 0.3 hectares and is located near Berens Lake, approximately 11 kilometres southeast of Pikangikum.
Meanwhile, there were three new forest fires confirmed on Friday.
Dryden fire #8 is located 86 km northeast of Ignace, east of Jessie Lake. The 0.3 ha. fire is not under control.
Thunder Bay fire #12 is located 1.5 km west of Armstrong. The fire is being held at 0.2 ha. in size.
Red Lake fire #30 is located approximately 12 km west of the far north community of Sandy Lake. The two hectare fire is not under control.
There are currently 12 active fires in the region. One fire is not under control, two fires are being held, four fires are under control and five fires are being observed.
Red Lake fire #14 near Pikangikum is under control at 3,835 ha. in size. Crews continue to search for hot spots identified through infrared scans.
Red Lake fire #17 northeast of Trout Lake is being held at 6,507 ha. Crews continue to re-enforce existing hose lines and extinguish hot spots identified by infrared scanning.
