Two new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region late Friday.
Fort Frances Fire #19, located on Rainy Lake about 20 km north-northwest of Fort Frances, was declared “out” as of this morning at 0.1 hectares in size.
A shore lunch fire that was not extinguished is suspected as the cause.
Meanwhile, Thunder Bay Fire #33, located on an island on Pashkokogan Lake about 90 km north of Thunder Bay, also was declared “out” as of this morning at 0.1 hectares.
There currently are three active fires in the region, including Fort Frances Fires #13 and #17, both of which are listed as “being observed” in Quetico Provincial Park.
Red Lake Fire #21 also is listed as “being observed” at last report.
The forest fire hazard is “low” in the southwest and central areas of the region.
But it is “moderate,” with pockets of “high,” in the southeast sector and across the far north.
