The Ministry of Natural Resources said today a new fire had been reported near Atikokan, just northwest of Quetico Provincial Park.
MNR spokesperson Debbie Maclean said fire crews already are “taking action” on the blaze.
Neither the size nor the cause of the fire had been determined as of press time though Maclean noted there’s a possibility it was started by campers.
There currently are 104 fires burning in the region, with most of those in the Red Lake, Sioux Look-out, and Nipigon districts.

A restricted fire zone, which bans open fires, went into effect at midnight on Tuesday across most of Northern Ontario.
