Fort High students participating in this year’s “Musical Revue” have been very hard at work over the past few weeks.
With opening night coming up next Thursday (Nov. 15), all the students involved are fine-tuning every part to make sure it will be one of the best.
This year’s “Musical Revue” will feature a bunch of mash-ups. They’ve combined two or more songs together that share the same theme or sound the same, and have created an entertaining mixture.
The songs vary from very upbeat and high-tempo to ones that are lighter sounding and calming.
“It will hopefully be a really captivating show for the audience,” said participant Erin Gustafson.
So far the group has done a lot of choreography during rehearsals. There is a different dance for every song so all the students have been learning many new steps.
Along with dancing, there is a lot of singing going on. The students are exercising their vocal chords on a daily basis, trying to make sure they know the songs inside and out.
But everyone is really enjoying the experience.
“As the older students, you get to be more involved with the [‘Musical Revue’],” noted Larissa Desrosiers.
“We actually have our own song that the senior members are doing.”
The students explained that joining the “Musical Revue” in Grade 9 is more of a learning experience. You get the idea of what it takes to put a production together and for the first time you are in front of a judgemental crowd.
“It builds character being able to perform in front of an audience that could be critical or kind,” explained Fort High music teacher Lisa Loney.
“Our crowds are usually very kind, though,” she smiled.
The “Musical Revue” will run next Thursday to Saturday (Nov. 15-17) at the Townshend Theatre.
The curtain rises at 7 p.m., and will last roughly 90 minutes long with an intermission.
