Mud Lake jamboree set to go Sunday

Wayne and Betty Salchert once again have organized the annual Mud Lake jamboree for this Sunday, which seems to attract more people every year.
More than 800 attended last year and I’m sure this year will be no exception.
The Salcherts are requesting everyone to sign the guest book this year so they can keep track. A prize will be given to the person who guesses closest to the actual attendance.
Several musicians have confirmed their attendance. Anyone else who wishes to perform can call Betty at 486-3536. You also can sign up the day of the event.
The celebration starts at 1 p.m. Lawrence Bellamy has agreed to entertain during set-up and registration. Pop, water, and the popular bologna burgers will be on sale. And the local “Early Irons” club will be on hand to display their antique vehicles.
Hope to see a good crowd there!

The lucky winner of the Emo Legion’s 50/50 Fair draw was Nancy Shaw, who pocketed $1,869.50. The ticket sellers were Bill and Doris McCready.

There will be a work bee at the Stratton Sale Yard this coming Monday (Aug. 25) at 9 a.m. to clean and prepare the yard for the annual cattle sale. Call Shirley and Tom Morrish (486-3622) if you can help out.
The sale will be held Sept. 6 starting at 9 a.m. sharp.

Also in farm news, there will be Hereford cattle tour next Wednesday (Aug. 27) starting at Jack McNabb’s farm (a light breakfast provided) and continuing through the district.
It will end at the farm of Kim-Jo Bliss, where a barbecue will top off the day. Call Kim-Jo (483-2354) for more information.

The annual Devlin slo-pitch league playoffs will take place this Saturday (Aug. 23) at the Devlin diamond on Ball Park Road. The first game starts at 9 a.m., with the final ‘A’ side game slated to be played at 6 p.m.
The canteen will be open throughout the day.
Last week’s slo-pitch action saw the Village People beat the Blue Zones (Aug. 11), Variety Pack down the Brew Jays (Aug. 12), and Good Vibrations upended the River Rats (Aug. 14).
No score was reported for the game held Aug. 13.

Two long-time residents passed away earlier this month—Elmer Norlund and Elmer Haglin. I’m sure the friendly faces of these two gentlemen will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the entire community.
Much sympathy is extended to the families, whom I’m sure are dealing with a great loss at this sad time.
