A Ministry of Natural Resources enforcement blitz on June 11 in Fort Frances District resulted in a 95 percent compliance rate, with only 19 charges laid and 18
warnings issued to anglers.
MNR conservation officers, including the canine services unit, checked 788 people on Highway 11 at Couchiching First Nation.
Most of those checked were non-residents.
Officers checked anglers for compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, as well as Ontario fishery regulations.
Both charges and warnings were issued for having more fish than the legal possession limit.
Charges were issued for transporting fish possessed illegally and transporting fish that could not be readily identified or counted.
Warnings also were issued for improperly-packaged fish.
