Morrison withdraws from Alberton election

Citing family obligations and timetable conflicts, Alberton Coun. Bill Morrison announced today he is withdrawing his nomination for reeve in the November municipal election.
He will be signing the papers this afternoon.
The decision leaves incumbent John Milling as the sole candidate for reeve for now.
“The main reason is because of family obligations,” said Coun.
Morrison. “My kids just signed up for new activities I want to be involved in. I’m also busy with work as a papermaker at Abitibi, a new business venture, and continuing my education through correspondence.
“I feel I won’t have the time I wanted to commit to council, and right now my family and job come first,” he added.
Coun. Morrison said he was forced to miss some of his daughter’s activities last year because of his obligations to Alberton council and now with two children involved in sports, he feels that is where his priorities lie.
“If I’m going to be reeve and can’t make it to all the meetings and functions, it’s not fair to the township,” he said.
“I think everything will be fine with John [Milling] running things,” he added.
But Coun. Morrison did not rule out the possibility of running again down the road. “I’ll take another look in three years and see where I stand then,” he remarked.
The slate of candidates in Alberton now consists of Milling as well as Couns. Mike Ford and Doug Mitchell seeking re-election.
Coun. Lisa Allan has indicated she won’t run again in November.
