Six new forest fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by yesterday afternoon, two of which were still active as of today.
The human-caused Nipigon Fire #6 was listed as “not under control” at three hectares in size.
Sioux Lookout Fire #2, meanwhile, was “under control” at 0.5 ha in size.
Three fires in Kenora District and one in Dryden District also ignited yesterday but have since been put “out.”
The other active fire in the region—Kenora Fire #5 located near Umfreville Lake—was listed as “under control” at 259.5 ha.
This fire started April 15.
The forest fire hazard is “moderate” to “high” across the region.
The public is reminded that no burning is allowed during the day from April 1-Oct. 31.
