More fires reported


Two new fires were reported in the Northwest Region yesterday, including a two-hectare, lightning-caused blaze near Sioux Lookout which is “not under control.”
Red Lake Fire #63, meanwhile, is a small blaze burning in a slash pile.
This fire also was “not under control” as of late yesterday.
Three new fires were confirmed Saturday—one each in the Thunder Bay, Dryden, and Sioux Lookout districts.
No problems were encountered with these fires.
With storm systems rolling across the region, a few lightning-caused fires may pop up in the next few days in areas where lightning has struck but little to no rain has fallen.
There currently are 13 active fires in Northwestern Ontario but none are posing a risk to people or property.
Nipigon District continues to monitor five fires while Sioux Lookout District is monitoring five in the far north.
Red Lake District, meanwhile, continues to keep an eye on Fire #31, which remains listed as “under control” at 18,556.1 ha.
