Two new fires were confirmed by Saturday evening in Red Lake District near Pikangikum.
Red Lake Fire #13 was listed as “not under control” at 0.7 hectares at last report.
Red Lake Fire #14, burning on an island south- southwest of Pikangikum, was reported as “being observed.”
Its current size was 0.2 ha.
Two new fires also were reported in the Northwest Region by day’s end Friday.
Nipigon Fire #20, located about 14 km east of Terrace Bay near Little Steel Lake, is now “out” at 0.1 ha in size.
Nipigon Fire #21, located about 30 km northwest of Nakina, is a lightning-caused blaze listed as “not under control” at 7.0 hectares at last report.
The fire hazard was forecast to drop to “low” across most of the region with yesterday’s rain.
But it is “moderate-high” in the northeast sectors of the region.
