More fires in north

One new fire was confirmed by yesterday afternoon in the Northwest Region.
Nipigon Fire #38, located near Hutchins Lake, was reported as “being observed” at 117 hectares in size.
Seven fires were reported on July 1, including six in Sioux Lookout District and one in Red Lake District.
The majority of them also are listed as “being observed.”
Crews continue to work on the Muskrat Dam Fire Complex (comprised of four separate blazes in Sioux Lookout District) and have made excellent progress in the last few days.
Reconnaissance flights continue across the Northwest Region to observe fires in the north.
These flights provide updates on fire behaviour and are useful when planning values protection in the far north.
The forest fire hazard is “low” in the southern sectors of the region and “high-extreme” in Sioux Lookout and Nipigon districts.
