More fires called ‘out’

Staff

The forest fire situation in the Northwest Region remains quiet.
Nine long-standing fires were called “out” yesterday—five in Sioux Lookout District and four in Nipigon District.
There now are just seven actives fires in the region—two in Fort Frances District, one in Nipigon District, one in Red Lake District, one in Kenora District, and two in Sioux Lookout District.
With the exception of the Red Lake blaze, all remaining fires are being monitored.
Mild weather conditions have kept the forest fire hazard at “low” to “moderate” for the region.
In related news, all 109 Ontario personnel that were deployed to Montana on Aug. 26 are returning home.
Travel details still were to be determined.
Earlier this fire season, Ontario deployed firefighters and overhead personnel to the Northwest Territories, Manitoba, and Quebec, and also provided forest fire suppression equipment to Quebec.
