Ontario currently has approximately 570 fire personnel assisting with the fire situation in British Columbia. Two CL-415 water bombers were dispatched to BC on Tuesday and two values protection units, packed with sprinkler kits, were transported by ground to B.C. yesterday.
The forest fire situation in British Columbia remains a concern with record breaking high temperatures and much of that province continuing to experience “high” to “extreme” fire danger ratings.
Ontario and B.C. have started planning for the rotation of Ontario firefighting staff which is scheduled to begin this weekend.
The first group of Ontario fire personnel sent to B.C. are nearing the end of their deployment and are getting ready to return.
Meanwhile, the forest fire situation remains quiet in the West Fire Region, with only one active fire burning at Quetico Park.
Following an aerial reconnaissance over Red Lake District fire #7, which has been listed as active for several weeks now, the fire was declared “out.”
This leaves one active fire in the region in Fort Frances District. Burning within Quetico Provincial Park, this fire is being monitored to allow for the beneficial use of fire in ecology renewal.
