Press Release
Rainy River Community College in International Falls is partnering with Lake Superior College in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. to offer the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Associate of Applied Science program.
Local students will be able to complete their pre-program and required general education courses at RRCC (25-27 credits) prior to attending LSC for three semesters of program-specific courses.
The fourth semester of clinical practicum can be completed in International Falls.
Medical Laboratory Technician graduates leave the program prepared for the national certification exam.
Additionally, LSC has partnered with St. Cloud State University to provide working, certified MLTs the opportunity to earn their Medical Laboratory Scientist Bachelor of Science degree via interactive television (ITV) at RRCC.
According to Minnesota Employment and Economic Development data, both certified MLT and MLS professionals are in high demand, with projected growth well above the state-wide average.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for local students to earn their Medical Laboratory Technician degree, and addresses an important need of our local and regional health-care facilities,” said RRCC Health Care Program director Donita Ettestad.
