Press release

Weechi-it-te-win Family Services is pleased to announce that they are once again hosting their annual McTavish Winter Wonderland Trail of Lights which is free to the public and open to everyone!

Special Projects Coordinator Danielle Bruyere said she and her staff have been hard at work putting up decorations, Christmas themed props and inflatables.  They have also strung hundreds of metres of Christmas lights throughout the wooded trail located at 71 McTavish Road in LaVallee Township.

“We’ve been having great turn-out with our family-oriented events. ” Danielle said.   “Last year we went to two nights for the Trail of Lights and had 2000 visitors.  We also recently had 2000 visitors over two nights at the McTavish Haunted Woods event we held at Halloween.”

Danielle is asking visitors to register for a time slot, and so far over 500 people have pre-registered to visit the Trail of Lights.  The free tickets can be booked at www.weechi.ca/events by clicking on the Winter Wonderland event.   The trail will be open from 4:30 to 8:30 on Dec. 16th and 17th with 30-minute time slots available.

Free hot chocolate and light food take-away bags will also be served by Weechi-it-te-win staff and volunteers.  The Muskie Girls Hockey team will be volunteering on Monday night and the Lakers Junior Hockey team will be helping out on Tuesday evening. The Grinch and Santa are always popular with the little ones and will be available for pictures with you and your family!

Executive Director Laurie Rose, who is retiring at the end of the month, said “We have been hosting these types of fun events for families across our district to spend quality time together. This includes the children, parents, caregivers, grandparents, aunts and uncles.  We’ve been creating these opportunities to enhance community spirit and we love to see the families laughing, smiling and creating lasting memories together!”

Admission is free but Weechi-it-te-win would appreciate any donations of non-perishable food goods that will collected by the Muskie Girls and Lakers hockey teams and donated to local food banks.
