McPherson re-elected chief

Chuck McPherson was re-elected chief of Couchiching First Nation for a second-straight term in band elections held Thursday.
This will be McPherson’s third term as chief, who also served from 1986-88.
There had been seven candidates running for chief.
Meanwhile, Dick Bird, Dan Mainville, and Lucille Morrisseau were re-elected to the band council. They will be joined by newcomers Dave Bruyere, Carolyn Jourdain, and Brian Perrault.
Two dozen candidates were running for the six council seats.
There were 600 votes cast in the election, which included off-reserve band members for the first time.
The chief and councillors are elected for two-year terms.
