McPherson re-elected as chief

Chuck McPherson was re-elected chief of Couchiching for a thirdstraight two-year term—and fourth overall—after band elections held yesterday.
Chief McPherson captured 156 votes to eke out runner-up David Bruyere (135).
Rounding out the seven candidates for chief were Diane Adams (83), Rudy Morrisseau (78), Harry Morrisseau (67), Douglas Bruyere (20), and Calvin Morrisseau (16).
Meanwhile, incumbents Lucille Morrisseau and Dick Bird were reelected to council, joined by newcomers Clint Perreault, Chad Bruyere, Ida Linklater, and Donald Bruyere.
There had been 42 candidates vying for the six council seats.
Band officials said 628 people cast their ballots out of the 1,405 who were eligible to vote. That number includes nearly 200 mailin ballots from off-reserve voters.
