McManaman named to post

At its May 7 meeting in Atikokan, the Rainy River District School Board announced the appointment of Al McManaman as superintendent of education.
McManaman has served the board as acting superintendent of education and assistant to the director since August, 2012, and has acquired more than 20 years of educational leadership experience in Rainy River District.
He held positions of increasing responsibility as a classroom teacher at Lac La Croix High School from 1992-96, then a teacher and guidance counsellor at Fort Frances High School from 1996-2004.
In 2005, he moved to Robert Moore School as the vice-principal, then returned to Fort High as the vice-principal and principal.
He demonstrated a consistent commitment to professional development, and acquired his Supervisory Officer’s Certification in 2012.
During his tenure as acting superintendent and assistant to the director, McManaman led the development and implementation of Early Learning programming and contributed to the development of board-wide Special Education Action Plans.
He also provided an administrative perspective on the implementation of Information Communication Technology (ICT) initiatives and integration at the school and system levels.
McManaman recognizes that supporting student wellness and achievement are our top priorities, and will continue to pursue programs and partnerships that support all students in the Rainy River District School Board.
