Mitaanjigamiing First Nation will host a “Math Night” for families on Tuesday (Feb. 17) starting at 4:15 p.m. at the multi-use facility there.
“[We will be]] incorporating fun, educational math games with traditional Anishinaabe teachings,” noted education director Sherry Lynne Sinclair.
“It should be a fun night,” she enthused.
“This ‘math night’ is all about building bridges and healthy relationships between the town [Fort Frances] and our First Nation communities,” Sinclair added.
Sharla MacKinnon, math facilitator for the Rainy River District School Board, will be on hand to host games, prizes, and fun.
J.W. Walker principal Kevin Knutsen and Donna Chief, aboriginal education leader for the RRDSB, also will be attending.
Jason Jones, meanwhile, will make a presentation on sacred sites of the area.
Supper will be served.
“[The] bus will drop off children at the gym after school if they wish to attend,” Sinclair noted.
“Parents are encouraged to attend with kids,” she added.
“Come prepared to have fun.”
