Marine patrol charges boaters

Members of the Rainy River OPP, in tandem with the Ministry of Natural Resources, inspected more than 50 vessels on the lower Rainy River on Oct. 12, resulting in charges against boaters, police announced this morning.
The marine enforcement initiative saw vessels inspected from Stratton to Lake of the Woods, with 10 charges laid and 34 warnings issued under the Liquor Licence Act, Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, and Small Vessels Act.
The OPP is reminding all boaters to put safety first.
Police will continue their visibility on the Rainy River, regardless of season, as well as enhance ongoing education and enforcement activities through public promotion and additional patrols.
