Man fined for using closed road

A Geraldton man has been fined $1,000 for disobeying a sign and using a road without authorization from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Back on Oct. 10, 2005, Andre Blanchard, 42, and a party of hunters harvested a moose off Marlene Road—a closed road about 30 km west of Geraldton.
Blanchard asked a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer if he could use an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) to retrieve the moose, but the officer denied permission.
The next day officers stopped Blanchard on his ATV as he was retrieving the moose.
Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio heard the case April 10 in Geraldton.
The MNR has the authority to close certain roads, clearly marked with signs, to protect remote tourism values.
