A Kenora man died after driving his vehicle into Lake of the Woods.
Around 4:15 p.m. yesterday, the Kenora OPP and Treaty #3 Police responded to a report of a vehicle in the water somewhere between Kenora and Keewatin.
It was discovered the vehicle was eastbound on Lakeview Drive when it crossed the westbound lane and entered Lake of the Woods east of the Cameron Bay bridge.
Police officers on the scene were able to remove the driver, who was the lone occupant, from the submerged vehicle.
With the assistance of fire and ambulance personnel, they got him to the waiting ambulance.
Citizens at the scene also provided assistance.
The driver, identified as Robert Chisel, 48, of Kenora was in critical condition at the time and later pronounced dead at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
A post-mortem examination was scheduled for today.
