Man dead after domestic dispute

Kenora OPP is continuing to investigate a domestic assault that eventually ended in the death of a Kenora-area resident.
Shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Kenora OPP were advised that two Kenora men had come across a woman and a man fighting on Longbow Lake Road.
The man was trying to strike the woman with an axe.
When the passers-by came to the aid of the woman, the man got back into his vehicle and tried to run all three down.
When the vehicle got stuck in the snow, the men were able to assist the woman in getting away. They then went to the nearest residence and called police.
Subsequent police investigation revealed that immediately prior to this incident, the woman had been driving along Longbow Lake Road when her vehicle was intentionally struck from behind by a pickup truck.
When the woman rolled her window down to speak with the approaching driver of the other vehicle, she discovered it was her estranged husband.
The man shot at the woman with a crossbow—the arrow striking her arm. He then came after her with an axe.
It was at this point the two other men passed by and came to the woman’s aid.
The woman, a 49-year-old Kenora-area resident, was taken to Lake of the Woods District Hospital suffering from non-life threatening injuries. She was treated and later released from hospital.
When police arrived at the scene, they began to search for 52-year-old Raymond Meronyk of Kenora. He later was located deceased at the landing on Longbow Lake.
His death was self-inflicted.
