Man charged with killing Grand Chief Beardy’s son

The Anishinabek Police Service, OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and North West Region Crime Unit have made an arrest in the death investigation of 19-year-old Daniel Beardy of Thunder Bay, son of Stan Beardy, Grand Chief of Nishnawbe-Aski Nation, Ontario’s biggest group of First Nations.
The 23-year-old male from Greenstone, was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection to the death.
The investigation began Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. after police received a 911 call from a residence on the Fort William First Nation Territory, requesting medical assistance for a man in distress.  Officers from the Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP and Anishinabek Police Service attended, assisted by Thunder Bay Fire Services and Ambulance.
Beardy, who had been visiting the residence, was transported by ambulance to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with critical injuries.
Late Sunday evening, Beardy passed away as a result of those injuries.
Weasley was arrested by police yesterday afternoon and charged with manslaughter.
He will appear in court in Thunder Bay today for a remand hearing.
The investigation is continuing.
