Lots of congratulations to pass along this week

Hello to one and all, I’m back after two weeks of not having any Devlin news.
I was in Aylmer, Ont. visiting my son and soon-to-be daughter-in-law. I also became reacquainted with friends that I had made during my three years I lived there. My daughter, Carley, also came with me, so you can bet several trips were made to the mall. They say “a woman’s place is in the mall,” but a 17-year-old female is even more of a believer in that quote.

I know it’s old news now that this year’s “Quest for the Best” was won by Alyson Booth, but I must take this time to congratulate this awesome local talent (I was at “Quest,” but left the area before the following week’s paper was printed).
I once again was overwhelmed with Alyson’s dynamic voice and her friendly, down-to-earth stage presence. She has so many fans in Devlin that I consider her “our Alyson,” so when she won, it was like a boost for our entire community.
Congratulations again, Alyson, and please keep on wooing the people with your talented voice.

This is definitely a week of congratulations to many folks in the district. Let me begin with congratulations to Kristina and Jeff Pollard on the birth of their first child, Alexander Jeffrey, who was born Aug. 7.
This birth also makes Barb and Cliff Shute first-time grandparents.
On the wedding front, best wishes are extended to Angela Hyatt and Harold Gibson, who were married Saturday.
Also to Tammy-Lynn Mann and Robin LeBlanc, who also were married Saturday. Tammy lived her younger years in La Vallee with her parents, Terry and Linda.
Although not married yet, the first step has been taken for Melinda Teeple and Colin Romyn. Congratulations to you both. Melinda is a friend and co-worker.

Kim Kennett, daughter of Steve and Velina, was wed Friday. Unfortunately, I’m not sure of her new husband’s name. Congratulations to you both.

The July gas draw at Dev-Lynne’s was won by Jason Caul. He took home a mitre saw.

Recent Devlin slo-pitch saw the River Rats beat Variety Pack (July 21), the Jokers downing Village People (July 22), and Good Vibrations over the Brew Jays (July 23).
No score was reported for the game July 24.
The following week, Good Vibrations topped Variety Pack (July 28), the River Rats beat the Blue Zones (July 29), it was Up North over the Village People (July 30), and the Brew Jays downing the Jokers (July 31).
The final day of the slo-pitch season is Aug. 31, when the playoffs will be held.

Robin’s 2¢:
While visiting my friends in London, Ont. last week, I noticed many of them take great pride in their fancy pasta sets. I informed them that many of us Devlin folks have a complete salad set also—and every bowl has “Cool Whip” written on the side!
P.S. Some of us even have three or four sets.
