Maurice MacMillan’s 95th birthday actually fell last Wednesday (Oct. 10) but since that was a weekday, it was more appropriate to celebrate the special occasion this past Saturday.
Knox United Church at Emo was decorated blue, while balloons and two trumpeters shaped as angels on each wall enhanced the festive atmosphere.
Each table was graced with a green/blue fan centrepieces.
Seated at the head table, Maurice received happy birthday greetings from the guests as he welcomed each one personally upon arrival.
Grace was said by Rev. Frances Flook, which was followed by refreshments, including a one-layer white decorated cake trimmed with iced flowers around the edge.
The honoured guest cut the cake, which was served by ladies of the church with ice cream.
Each table also had a number under a cup and saucer. If you were lucky, a small gift awaited each person with a number.
Emo Coun. Doug Hodge presented Maurice with a plaque—featuring the township’s new logo and signed by Reeve Russ Fortier and the other councillors—wishing him many more happy, healthy years.
Prior to the refreshments, David Loney and Judy Klug presented two songs, “Danny Boy” and “On the Banks of Lochlomand.”
Maurice thanked everyone for coming to help him celebrate his 95th.
Congratulations, Maurice, from the community. We’ll be watching you make your walks to Front Street for your groceries and mail, and roll those balls down the middle at carpet bowling.
