Local riders compete in quarter horse show

    Several local riders were among the some 40 competitors in the annual quarter horse show held in Emo on the weekend and Angela Halvorsen, one of the organizers of the event, expressed it was an excellent show.
    “We had a good turnout, beautiful weather and the grounds were in good shape—it was great,” she said, noting there were also plenty of spectators on hand.
    She explained the local riders competed along side participants from Manitoba, Minnesota, Kenora, Dryden, and Thunder Bay.
    “It’s the only quarter horse show we have in the Rainy River District each year,” Halvorsen indicated. “It’s breed specific, where at the [Rainy River Valley Agricultural Society Fall] fair any breed of horse can come in. In this one, you had to have a quarter horse and it had to be registered with the American Quarter Horse Association.”
    She added she was thrilled to see a few new faces at the show and that at least two of the awards were presented to local riders.
