Local men’s rink off to provincial playdowns

Robin McCormick

Local curlers Tim Nordin (skip), Mitch Seguin (third), Mike Badiuk (second), and Travis Showalter (lead) are heading to Sudbury to compete in the provincial men’s playdowns with a trip to the Brier at stake.
Our district offers them congratulations and best wishes for good luck as they continue to show their skill as four well-known names on the local curling scene.
Mike Badiuk’s mother will be travelling to Sudbury to cheer her son on.

Sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Aaron Hyatt, who was killed in a snowmachine accident on Couchiching last Thursday evening.
We hold close his parents, brother, and three young sons at this devastating time.
Aaron and his family spent several years in Devlin as he grew up. I remember him as a young boy always looking exactly like his Dad—right down to the smile and twinkle in his eye.
Many a birthday party and gathering was shared between Aaron and his brother, Pat, along with the Hyatts, Booths, Masons, my kids, and many other young people.
Aaron always seemed to be surrounded by friends.
I still have many a picture of the awesome birthday cakes Aaron’s mom (Gayle) made for not only her boys but other kids, as well.
I think I can safely say Aaron loved his country life in Devlin. He and Pat enjoyed many sports, enjoying time in the bush, and just doing all the great things brothers do when they grow up in the country.
Aaron was a friendly guy, not only as a young person but up until his last days. Many a person has mentioned since his passing that Aaron always took the time to say “Hi” and ask how you were doing.
Once again, the district sends sympathy to the family and many friends grieving at his sad time.

Robin’s 2¢:
Driving along on a sunny day with her young granddaughter by her side, my sister was on top of the world.
“Grandma,” said the girl. “Is Grandpa a lot older than you?”
“A few years, yes,” she replied. Then fishing for a compliment, she inquired, “Why do you ask?”
“Well, his moustache is a lot bigger than yours.”
