Local Legion ladies elect new executive

The Br. #29 Legion Ladies Auxiliary held its general meeting Nov. 10 in the Legion Hall with 35 members attending.
After advancing the colours and the singing of “O Canada,” the charter was draped in memory of departed members Bernice Plasky and Doreen Wreggitt.
President Silvia then initiated new member Shelly Readman into the auxiliary.
The usual business of the auxiliary followed with the reading of the minutes from the October general meeting and Nov. 3 executive meeting, accounts for payment, financial report, and the reading of correspondence received.
Reports were received from the various executive officers, as well as information on upcoming banquets and Christmas parties the auxiliary will be catering to.
Jeannette Cawston has assumed Ways and Means duties. She will be very busy in the next few weeks and is going to need extra help. If any member has some free time to help serve or clean-up, please call her.
A sincere thank you is extended to all who helped with the Remembrance Day tea. Although the total mony raised was not yet tallied, indications are it was a huge success again.
The lucky winner of the deacon’s bench was Sandra Yeo while Sandy Pruys won the quilt and rack.
The birthday draw was won by Bea Galbraith, with Betty Newman winning the attendance draw. Dee Ducharme was the lucky winner of the early-bird draw.
Comrades Glen Westover and Robert Boland then conducted elections for the auxiliary’s executive for 2005.
Elected and installed were Silvia Gunderson as president, Alfreda Easton as 1st vice-president, Sandy Pruys as 2nd vice-president, and Betty Newman as secretary.
Other positions were filled with the same ladies as in 2004 except that Yvonne Chambers will be Sgt.-at-Arms.
The Sick and Visiting position is vacant so if any member is interested in this position, please let President Silvia know.
The auxiliary’s next general meeting will be held next Wednesday (Dec. 8). As in past years, we will be served dinner by branch members prior to the meeting.
A social will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7.
Members are asked to bring along a non-perishable item for the local food bank and there also will be a $10 gift exchange. All members are encouraged to come out and have a fun time.
