Family Day is almost here. Time to pack up the kids, and have some fun together throughout the Rainy River District.
This year, the holiday lands on Monday, Feb. 17, and a variety of local groups have been busy organizing events and activities.

The Alberton Rec Committee will be hosting their annual Winter Fun Day at Millennium Park from 1-3 p.m. Stop by and enjoy sliding, skating, snow curling and snow painting. Then gather around the campfire for hot chocolate, s’mores, chili and hot dogs.
A family fishing tournament will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Morson Government Dock. Registration is $50 for adults, and $5 for kids, with all proceeds going towards the Pegamigaabo Elementary School. A canteen and minnows are available on site. The Fort Frances Lakers will be holding a matinee game against the Wisconsen Lumberjacks. The puck drops at 2:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids arena. Kids 12 and under watch for free if accompanied by an adult. Wear a jersey, and be entered into a draw for Lakers swag.
The province invites you to take your family out on the lake, for Family Fishing Weekend, Feb. 15-17. Families can enjoy a weekend of ice fishing without the need for a licence on any of our area lakes.
The Memorial Sports Centre in Fort Frances will be holding two Family Swims, from 10-11:30 a.m. and again from 2-5 p.m. Check out www.fortfrances.ca for swim guidelines.
A Free Family Day Skate is being hosted by the Substance Abuse Prevention Team, the Fort Frances Lakers and the Fort Frances Muskies. Strap on your skates at the 52 Canadians Arena, between 2-4 p.m. Complimentary hot chocolate will be there to keep you warm.
Outdoor skating is available at all times at Crossroads School. A heated shack is on site.
