Lions Club planning to host ‘Farmers Night’

In recognition of the rural-urban character of Rainy River District, the Emo and District Lions Club is busy making plans to host its first “Farmers Night” on Friday, March 25 at the Emo Legion.
Club members plan on entertaining their friends and neighbours from across the district with a fantastic beef dinner served by the Emo Legion kitchen staff.
The first “Farmers Night,” according to available information, was initiated by a Rotary Club in Chicago in 1930.
Since then, it has become an annual event with Rotarians and Lions Clubs in agricultural areas across North America.
The members of these organizations invite their friends who are farmers, those who have a business that is connected to or benefits from agriculture, and others from their region to enjoy a dinner and evening of entertainment as an act of appreciation for the hard work of those responsible for getting the food from the farm to the tables of the nation.
The Emo and District Lions hope the first-annual Rainy River District “Farmers Night” will bring farmers, merchants, and members of the general public together to celebrate another successful year of getting local products to homes throughout the region.
The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will feature door prizes, including a framed Robert Bateman poster.
There also will be other draw prizes donated by local merchants and agricultural suppliers from far and wide.
Tickets cost $20 per person, with proceeds going towards local projects in the district.
Everyone who buys a ticket not only will enjoy a great meal and evening of entertainment, but also will go home with one of the many draw prizes.
Each person who attends also will be given a “treat bag” full of gifts provided by local businesses and various organizations.
Entertainment will be supplied by district musicians.
The organizing committee hopes you will mark March 25 on your calendar and plan to support this worthwhile event by buying a ticket.
Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are available from any Lions Club member.
