From the MNRF
A dozen new fires were confirmed by yesterday afternoon in the Northwest Region.
These fires, 10 of which occurred in Sioux Lookout District and the other two in the districts of Red Lake and Nipigon, were a result of recent lightning that passed through the far north.
Meanwhile, one fire was confirmed after Saturday’s report.
Fort Frances Fire #21, located near Partridge Crop Lake, has been declared “out” at 0.1 hectares in size.
Following days of reduced fire activity and successful suppression efforts, resources are being demobilized from Red Lake Fire #38 near North Spirit Lake and Sioux Lookout Fire #37 near Sachigo Lake in the far north.
Both fires will be monitored by their respective districts once crews and equipment are removed.
There currently are 42 active fires in the region, 38 of which are listed either as “under observation,” “under control,” or “being held.”
The forest fire hazard is “low” to “moderate” in the southern portions of the region, and “high” to “extreme” in the northern portions.
In related news, the Northwest Region continues to assist the Northeast Region with fire crews and personnel following several days with multiple new fires in that part of the province.
