Legion ladies to hold garage sale

Press Release

The Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary to Br. #29 (Fort Frances) met on March 9, with 27 members in attendance.
President Alfreda Easton opened the meeting in the usual manner.
A donation was made to the hard-working and popular Thunder Bay Sports Foundation.
It also was announced that 14 members (three of which are accredited) will be attending the district meeting in Dryden on April 1-3.
The theme this year is “Winter Vacation.” Have fun, ladies!
A garage sale will held upstairs at the Legion on Saturday, April 16 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Donations for the auxiliary sale can be dropped off Friday, April 15 after noon (no clothes please).
In addition to the auxiliary sale, there will be another six tables for rent (at $10 each) on a first-come, first-served basis.
To reserve a table or for more information, call Alfreda at 274-9105.
A canteen will be open for coffee, tea, and a light lunch.
In other news, the local Legion branch is hosting a “Tina Turner Review” on Thursday, April 28, with proceeds going to the veterans’ PTSD program.
There will be appetizers available from 6-8 p.m. for $10/plate, with the show starting at 8 p.m.
This show is performing at Legions across Canada and receiving great reviews!
Tickets are available at the local Legion or online at brownpapertickets.com
Other upcoming events include Veterans’ Night on May 7 and a spring tea on May 14.
A reminder that auxiliary members will be delivering “Meals on Wheels” the week of April 4.
Due to Easter being early this year, the auxiliary’s monthly supper will be held this Friday (March 18) featuring pork cutlets, salad, buns, potatoes, gravy, dressing, vegetables, and, as always, home-baked pies.
All for just $15/plate. You also can play “50/50 Joker Poker.”
Doors open at 4:30, with take-outs available for pick-up by calling 274-3772.
The weather is improving daily so it is hoped that more members will be coming out to our next meeting on Wednesday, April 13.
Irene Laing reported that as of March 1, 64 members have paid their 2016 dues.
She would like to remind all unpaid members that now is the time to pay their membership for 2016.
The attendance draw was won by Sue Drew while the birthday draw winner was Susan Neurinski.
A light lunch was served and Bingo was played.
Any ladies interested in joining the Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary can contact Janet Lambert (274-2713) or Irene Laing (274-9560).
New members are always welcome.
