The Legion Ladies Auxiliary to Br. #29 met on Feb. 13, with 28 members in attendance.
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by president Alfreda Easton, and the minutes of the Jan. 9 general meeting and the Feb. 6 executive meeting were read and approved.
The charter was draped in honour of two of our recently-departed members.
Eleanor Kuchma, an honourary member with 60 years’ service, donated to teas and functions. She also called Bingo for several years at the Legion.
Marie McDiarmid, a life member with 65 years’ service, held positions of president and past president.
She also worked for functions and donated as she was able.
In other news, Irene Laing was installed to the secretary positon for the current year.
We still are in need of a Ways and Means co-ordinator. If you can help out, contact Alfreda Easton at 274-9105.
If you are able to take on a month or two, this is very helpful.
The auxiliary helped with a Family Day pancake breakfast held on Feb. 18 by the 908 Rainy Lake Air Cadet Squadron.
A reminder the auxiliary’s monthly supper, featuring roast beef and all the trimmings, will be held this Friday (Feb. 22) upstairs at the Legion.
The cost is $16/plate.
As well, the district meeting will be held April 5-6 in Rainy River, with the theme being “Through the Ages.”
Call Christina (271-4292) to let her know if you will be attending.
The auxiliary also is sponsoring/supporting “Project Petunia” for 2019 flower baskets to beautify our town, the Festival of the Performing Arts (to be held in April), and the Fort Frances Family Centre on Scott Street.
As well, auxiliary members will be delivering Meals on Wheels for March 18-22 (volunteers are in place).
Preparations also are underway for the Legion Convention set for June 14-17 in Fort Frances.
Sponsorships are being sought for monetary donations and/or for items to be included in the goodie bags for the attendees.
If you can help with this canvassing, contact Christina at 271-4292.
This is a big job and only can be accomplished with the help of volunteers.
The February birthday winner was Gwen Westover, with cards to Irene Laing, Kathy Bois, Marlene Rissman, and Larissa Curr.
Carolyn Oliver won the 50/50 draw, Sandy Pruys won the attendance draw, and Bard Ogden won the early-bird membership draw.
If you would like to know more about joining this group of fun and hard-working ladies, contact Cindy Noble (271-2021) or Joanne Gosselin (274-5932).
