Legion ladies meet

Despite being a very cold night, it was great to see 26 members brave the weather to attend the local Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary monthly meeting Feb. 10.
The charter was draped in memory of Florence Hill.
President Alfreda Easton installed Leslie Bell as the Ways and Means chairperson.
For any information on bookings and a complete menu, Bell can be reached by calling the Legion office at 274-0129 or 275-7263.
Bell also has taken on the phone convener position until Vicki Jewell returns, so please try and help out when called upon.
Meanwhile, auxiliary donations were made to the Border Skating Club and the Rainy River District Festival of the Performing Arts.
Upcoming events include the annual “Veterans’ Night” on May 7 and the spring tea on May 14.
In other news, Easton and Yvonne Chambers will be heading a team for this year’s “Relay for Life” on Saturday, June 25 at the Sorting Gap Marina.
This year’s theme is “Canada Eh,” and auxiliary members are welcome to join in the fun!
Auxiliary members also will be delivering Meals on Wheels on March 7-11.
A big shout-out to Irene Laing for her well-deserved nomination for the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce’s Tony Beyak Memorial Volunteer of the Year award.
She is a hard-working volunteer not only with the Legion auxiliary but several other organizations, as well.
The attendance draw was won by Jan Gosman while the birthday draw winner was Laing
A light lunch was served and Bingo was played.
The auxiliary’s next monthly meeting will be this coming Wednesday (March 9).
