Legion Ladies elect officers

Fort Frances Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary to Br. #29 met on Nov. 13, 2019 with 32 present.

The meeting was brought to order at 7 p.m. by president Alfreda Easton.

Minutes of the Oct. 9 general meeting and the Nov 6. executive meeting were read and approved.

New membership applications for Linda Coyle, Sharon Hupchuk, and Cheryl Goldamer were presented for approval and approved by the membership, as was a reinstatement for Shelly Haney.

Initiations will take place at the January 2020 general meeting.

Early bird membership draw went to Maureen Ricard. There were no November birthdays.

Sandra Gosselin won the 50/50 draw, while Susan Neurinski won the attendance draw.

Election of Officers was held for the coming year (2020).

Josie Mlller will be president, while Alfreda Easton will be past-president.

Leslie Bell and Christine McDougall will be first and second vice-president respectively.

Irene Laing will be secretary while Tina Roth will be treasurer. Sandy Pruys will be Sargeant at Arms.

The balance of officers for 2020 will include Dianne Taggart (Sick & Visiting), Dorese Harrison (Ways & Means), Cindy Noble and Joanne Gosselin (Membership), Marlene Rissman and Clara Stainke (Entertainment), Jan Gosman (Social), and Giselle Calder and Barb Everett (Publicity).

Meanwhile, the Remembrance Day tea on Nov. 10 was a big success.

A listing of draw winners will be published.

Looking ahead, the monthly Legion Ladies supper featuring cutlets with all the trimmings and pie/dessert will be held Nov. 29 upstairs at the Legion at 5:30 p.m. (doors open at 4:30 p.m.).
Cost is $16 per plate. There will be a 50/50 draw.

On March 27, 2020, our district meeting will be held in Kenora.

Meanwhile, the date has been changed for the “PJs and Pearls Gala.” The event will now be on April 4, 2020 (changed from Feb. 29, 2020).

Advance tickets cost $60 each; after March 15, they will cost $70 each.

The next general meeting will be on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Christmas meeting at 6 p.m., dinner at 7.

There will be a gift exchange ($15). Bring a gift, get a gift. Bring a non-perishable food item, too.

Sponsorships and support included the Salvation Army, Fishes & Loaves soup kitchen, UNFC food bank, Mine Centre Breakfast & Snack Program, and the community Christmas dinner (if held).
