The president of the Kenora-Rainy River Provincial Liberal Association has been acclaimed as the party’s official candidate here for when the next election is called.
“I am humbled by this endorsement to fight for a balanced approach for the people of Kenora-Rainy River, and represent our exciting new premier Kathleen Wynne’s commitment to the north,” said Anthony Leek, who also was the candidate here in the 2011 election.
“The way forward for Kenora-Rainy River clearly lies in Kathleen Wynne’s proven ability to find common ground and find real solutions to the challenges we face,” he added.
Born in Fort Frances, Leek has lived in Emo for most of his life, where he’s been a councillor since October, 2010 and currently serves as deputy mayor.
He also was elected vice-president (Northern region) of the Ontario Liberal Party last September.
“Ontario Liberals understand that our challenges here in the north are crucial for the prosperity of all Ontarians,” Leek said.
“That’s why as your Ontario Liberal candidate, I’ll fight for a balanced approach to health care, education, infrastructure, and social programs, a fair society that’s fiscally responsible, and a strong north that attracts jobs and investment of all kinds,” he pledged.
Leek earned a B.A. in history and native studies from the University of Manitoba, as well as a Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.
He also has worked as an educator in Rainy River District over the past four years.
“The people of Kenora-Rainy River have shown real commitment to the Ontario Liberal Party over the past 20 months,” noted Leek.
“I am committed to work hard every day to represent the vision of a fair, prosperous, and fiscally-responsible society, to earn the trust of this vast and remarkable region, and to represent our people at Queen’s Park,” he stressed.
