Last-minute donations for dinner still welcome

It’s not to late to make a donation to the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau’s annual community Christmas dinner coming up this Saturday.
“The dinner planning is going along well,” Karen Haney, assistant co-ordinator of the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau, noted yesterday.
“But we still need donations. Whatever anyone wants to donate would be fine,” she added, noting suggestions for items include cookies and dainties, as well as pickles.
Financial donations also are welcome.
While Haney has got a long list of volunteers lined up for the community dinner, which takes place from noon-2 p.m. at Knox United Church, Haney noted she always can find something for someone to do if they really want to help out on Christmas Day.
This could mean serving food, cooking meals, delivering “Meals on Wheels,” or help set up or take down.
Haney also noted those who would like a meal delivered to them on Christmas Day should contact the Volunteer Bureau by this Friday (Dec. 24).
The same goes for anyone who may need a ride to the church.
Green Funeral Home has donated the use of limo for the day this year, so those who need a ride to the church will be doing so in style.
To make a food or monetary donation, volunteer your time, or arrange a meal or ride, call Haney or Vanessa Hebert at 274-9555. Or drop by the old CN station anytime between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
“We’ll be so busy this week. If someone can’t get a hold of us, just leave a massage on the machine. We’ll be checking them,” advised Haney.
Last year’s dinner drew almost 300 people while at the same time close to 80 “Meals on Wheels” were delivered.
