Large quantity of cocaine seized

On Monday around 7 p.m., a Marathon OPP officer stopped a Chrysler PT Cruiser for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Highway 17 in Patience Township, east of Nipigon.
Upon further investigation, it was determined the driver—the lone occupant of the vehicle—was in possession of a controlled substance.
The investigation subsequently resulted in the seizure of roughly 19.8 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $900,000.
A 30-year-old man from Brossard, Que. was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
He was remanded to the Thunder Bay District jail to await a bail hearing scheduled for Feb. 21.
