La Vallee council already getting down to business

La Vallee council held its inaugural meeting last Wednesday night (Dec. 10) with new reeve Emily Watson at the helm.
After the swearing-in ceremony, the new reeve and council wasted no time getting down to business—passing no less than a dozen resolutions.
Several councillors were appointed to various boards and committees:
•Coun. Dale Stamarski as La Vallee’s rep on the library board;
•Coun. Freeda Carmody as La Vallee’s rep on the Rainy River District Municipal Association’s executive committee;
•Coun. Jim Belluz as deputy-reeve;
•Coun. Len McCormick as La Vallee’s by-law officer;
•Coun. Belluz and Terry Beadle as the township’s reps on the Health and Safety Committee;
•Coun. Belluz and Gary Esselink as the township’s reps on the Fence Viewers Committee;
•Coun. Belluz and Tom Morrish as livestock valuers;
•Coun. McCormick and Coun. Stamarski as the township’s reps on the Cemetery Committee;
•the appointment of Reeve Watson as La Vallee’s rep on the Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board; and
•Coun. Carmody as the township’s rep on the Regional Economic Development Committee (REDC).
Council also moved to authorize membership on the Area Municipal Building Inspection Service, appointing Coun. McCormick and township clerk Sylvia Smeeth to represent La Vallee on that committee.
The next regular meeting of La Vallee council is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at the municipal office in Devlin.
