In response to the earthquake disaster in Haiti, Crossroads School’s Kids Care Club and the student council will be organizing a fundraising drive called “Coins for Haiti.”
From Monday, Jan. 25 through Thursday, Jan. 28, students are asked to donate coins that will be forwarded to “Free the Children” network, which is partnering with organizations in Haiti to provide immediate food and medical relief, and to support rebuilding and development efforts in the weeks and months to come.
Any members of the community who would like to support the students’ efforts to help affected children and their families in Haiti can drop their donations off at the school office.

Next Frday (Jan. 29) is a P.A. day for students across Rainy River District.

A “Positive Parenting” program is being offered for parents of children aged five-18 who are having difficulty managing behaviours in the home.
The program will start on Feb. 3 and run each Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for six-eight weeks at the Family & Children’s Services office in Fort Frances (240 First St. E.)
Child care will be provided.

Devlin curler Mike Badiuk played second for the Tim Nordin rink (also featuring lead Travis Showalter and third Mitch Seguin), which advanced to the “West” qualifier after the men’s inter-region playdowns in Red Lake over the weekend.
The Tim Hortons Brier will take place in February in Halifax.

The Emo Legion is planning a “funspiel” on Jan. 22-23.
The entry fee is $25/person, which includes a banquet on the Saturday night.

An elderly Devlin couple decided to get married.
Joe, 92, and Martha, 89, made the long trip into Fort Frances and while strolling down the street, they passed a drug store.
“We’re about to get married,” Joe told the pharmacist behind the counter. “Do you sell heart medication?”
“Of course we do,” replied the pharmacist.
“How about medicine for circulation?”
“All kinds.”
“Medicine for rheumatism?”
“Definitely.”
“How about suppositories?”
“You bet.”
“Medicine for memory problems, arthritis, and Alzheimer’s?” wondered Joe.
“Yes, a large variety. The works,” answered the pharmacist.
“What about vitamins, sleeping pills, Geritol, and antidotes for Parkinson’s disease?”
“Absolutely.”
“Everything for heartburn and indigestion,” queried Joe.
“We sure do.”
“You sell wheelchairs and walkers and canes?”
“All speeds and sizes,” assured the pharmacist.
“Adult diapers?”
“Sure.”
“Well, then, we’d like to use this store for our bridal registry,” Joe pronounced.
