(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On February 7, 2024, shortly before 9:00 p.m., a member of the Rainy River District Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on general patrol on Mill Road in the town of Fort Frances, performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act infraction.
Through investigation the driver had been consuming alcohol and police issued the breath demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD), which resulted in the driver registering an “Alert”.
As a result, a 49-year-old of Kenora Ontario was issued a three-day driver’s licence suspension for having a blood alcohol concentration within the Warn Range. The driver was also charged under the Tobacco Tax Act, Liquor Licence Control Act and Highway Traffic Act with: Driving while under Suspension; Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor; Drive Motor Vehicle, No Plates; Possession of unmarked cigarettes.
The accused was issued a summons to attend court, Provincial Offence Notices and more then 1700 unmarked cigarettes were seized by OPP.
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances at a later date
