Ken McKinnon profile

Ken McKinnon is vying for the position of reeve in the Township of La Vallee.
He is the owner and operator of a 100 cow/calf operation. His family includes wife, Marilyn, and sons, Trevor (wife, Joleigh, and daughter, Samantha), and Tyler (wife, Anne, and children, Cassidy and Cameron).
Ken has 35 years’ experience with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation—20 years with highway engineering and 15 as the municipal roads advisor.
He also was a La Vallee council member for 12 years, with six of those spent as reeve.
McKinnon also has worked as a board member for the Rainy River Future Development Corp., as president of the Rainy River Cattlemen’s Association, and as drainage superintendent for district municipalities.
He feels strongly about ensuring tax dollars are well-spent in a fair and equitable manner in the best interest of ratepayers. He would like to initiate a capital road reconstruction program to start improving the roads to a better standard.
McKinnon feels problems with mill closures and cutbacks, the “mad cow” crisis, and this past summer’s drought make it very essential that La Vallee works closely with all neighbouring communities in addressing the above issues.
In addition, he supports the regional abattoir project, which, when completed, will give district farmers an alternative market.
McKinnon is retired from full-time employment, and has the time and experience to serve the community as reeve.
