Keep your debit, credit cards secure

The Rainy River District detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has recently charged two people in relation to of credit and debit cards that have been stolen and used to make purchases.

Members of the public are urged to ensure they maintain positive control on their debit and credit cards.

Positive control includes ensuring no one other than the owner of the card has access to the card, the PIN for the card or knowledge of where the stored.

With the ability for to “tap” credit and debit cards using near field communication is it even more important to keep track of where your credit and debit cards are stored.

Equally important is the timely reporting of lost or stolen cards to the appropriate financial institution as soon as the loss has been discovered.

The OPP is committed to community safety. Members of the public are urged to report these thefts police can make an appropriate response.
