The Rainy River District School Board named the newest school in Rainy River at the last board of trustees meeting on January 7th, and “Rainy River K-12 School” is officially the name of the “state-of-the-art, $30 million facility.” Moreover, Rainy River K-12 School is opening its doors for the next school year and the school will make further decisions about the school mascot and colours once it begins its service life.
“The Rainy River District School Board of Trustees has officially named the new consolidated K-12 school in Rainy River as ‘Rainy River K-12 School,'” reads a Rainy River District School Board press release. “This state-of-the-art, $30 million facility is set to open its doors in September 2025, welcoming students for the 2025-2026 school year.”
Only one other name was considered by the Board of Trustees when naming the school.
“The Rainy River K-12 School Naming Committee carefully reviewed feedback from staff, students, and the community through the ThoughtExchange survey,” reads the release. “After completing a process that spanned two months of research and community consultation, the School Naming Committee proposed two possible names, ‘Rainy River K-12 School’ and ‘Rainy River Public School.'”
Of course, the naming committee settled on the former.
As of yet, the school hasn’t decided on school colours or a mascot.
“Decisions regarding the school colours and mascot will be made at the school level,” reads the release statement.
