The ’flu outbreak warning has been lifted at the Emo Health Centre. The outbreak was called last Tuesday after three long-term care residents had confirmed cases of influenza ‘A’ and four others had respiratory symptoms.
As a result of the outbreak, immediate family members were asked to restrict their visit to the resident room and refrain from visiting other residents while at the Emo Health Centre. All group programming was cancelled and will now be reinstated.
“After consultation with the Northwestern Health Unit this morning, this alert was resolved in accordance with their definition of a specified period of time with no new cases,” said Jodi Jewell, infection control nurse at Riverside Health Care, late yesterday.
“Our primary concern is always the health and well-being of our patients and long-term care residents,” said Glenna Morand, manager of care at the Emo Health Centre.
“We wish to thank family members and friends of our patients and residents for their patience and acceptance of the temporary outbreak restrictions,” she added.
“We also want to extend our thanks to the Health Unit for their support and assistance.”
“We do wish to remind the community that while we are no longer in outbreak, our long-term care residents are still recovering slowly from the effects of their illness and may not yet be at 100 percent,” noted Morand.
“We ask that this be kept in mind when coming in over the next few days and the Easter weekend.”
Influenza is a seasonal virus that often peaks in winter and may persist into early spring.
Symptoms include sudden onset of fever, headache, coughing, sore throat, muscle aches and fatigue.
