Ice travel still unsafe

Voyageurs National Park staff continues to check winter ice thicknesses and trail conditions within the park.
Sufficient ice has formed to stake the “Green” snowmobile trail between the Rainy Lake Visitor Center and the Ash River resort community.
Travel elsewhere on frozen lake surfaces within Voyageurs National Park is unsafe and not recommended due to insufficient ice thicknesses and other hazards.
The continued lack of snow cover has created very rough and predominantly bare ice surfaces.
As well, cross-country ski trails are not yet open due to the lack of snow.
