The ice on Rainy Lake went out earlier this week.
Thor Einarson, of Einarson Bros. Flying Service in International Falls, reported yesterday that the ice was “out” on the Canadian side of Rainy Lake by Monday (May 2).
Last year, “ice-out” on the Canadian side of Rainy Lake was April 12, which was the earliest ever on record.
In 2009, it was May 5.
Meanwhile, “ice-out” on the U.S. side of Rainy Lake also was officially declared on Monday.
Last year, it went out April 10.
